  • 1927 – Fire occurred during a children’s movie show at the Laurie Palace Theatre in Montreal, Canada, as 77 children die in a stampede.
  • 1941 – Sammy Kaye recorded the hit song “Until Tomorrow” with his orchestra.
  • 1947 – Elizabeth “Betty” Short, was last seen alive.
  • 1952 – Cold War between the United States and various countries in Asia, Europe, and elsewhere.
  • 1957 –  British Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden, announced his resignation.
  • 1965 – It was predicted in a Wisconsin Newspaper that the reputation of American international travelers/tourists will be improved.
  • 1967 – The second album by The Monkees was released.
  • 1970 – The constitution of Singapore was enacted.
  • 1972 – 280,000 British miners walked out at midnight in their first national strike for almost 50 years.
  • 1975 – Scientists who had spent time studying the effects of marijuana were unable to determine whether or not penalties regarding the use of the drug should be as stiff as they are, as the effects were largely unknown.
  • 1983 – British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, made a visit to the Falkland Islands.
  • 1986 – Kodak, the camera giant, was taken to court by the Polaroid company for using its patent and was forced to compensate its customers who had bought the cameras.
  • 1988 – US male Figure Skating championship was won by Brian Boitano.
  • 1990 – Jim Palmer & Joe Morgan were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
  • 1997 – Heart attacks made Frank Sinatra go back to the hospital.
  • 2000 -26th People’s Choice Awards: Harrison Ford & Julia Roberts won (Motion Picture) and Drew Carey & Calista Flockhart won (TV).
