  • 1760 – George III starts his reign as King of Great Britain and Ireland.
  • 1812 – US frigate the United States captured the British vessel Macedonian, during the war of 1812.
  • 1870 – Postcards were first used in the USA.
  • 1935  – 2,000 people were killed in Jeremie & Jacmel Haiti due to hurricane-produced floods.
  • 1937 – The Belgian government of Zealand fell due to black money.
  • 1940 –  Benjamin Oliver became the first African-American to be made general in the US military.
  • 1951 – Peace talks concerning the Korean War resumed after 63 days, in Panmunjom.
  • 1952 – French president inaugurates Donzère-Mondragonstuw Dam.
  • 1954 – A U.S. cabinet meeting was televised for the first time.
  • 1955 – The Tappan Company, introduced the microwave oven for home use.
  • 1958 – U.S. Marines withdrew from Beirut, Lebanon.
  • 1962Uganda became a member state of the United Nations.
  • 1971 – General Meeting of UN agreed to admit People’s Republic of China.
  • 1981– 200,000 people demonstrated in Brussel against cruise missiles.
  • 1984 – American singer, songwriter, and actress Katy Perry was born.
  • 1984 – USSR performed a nuclear test at Novaya Zemlya USSR.
  • 1986 – International Red Cross was forced out from South Africa.
  • 1990 – U.S. Defense Secretary Dick Cheney, announced that the Pentagon was planning to send 100,000 more troops to Saudi Arabia.
  • 2001 – Windows XP became available for the first time.
  • 2020 – Pope Francis announced the appointment of 13 new cardinals.
